Quantum replacement fuel pumps are designed for long-lasting performance and typically last over 2,500 hours or 100,000 miles. However, the lifespan of a fuel pump can depend on driving conditions, fuel quality, and maintenance habits. Proper upkeep—such as not letting your fuel tank drop below a quarter full—can extend its service life. Learn more about preventative fuel system maintenance on our blog.

There are several signs that indicate your fuel pump may be failing. These symptoms include: Difficulty starting the vehicle, a loud whining sound when the engine is running, surging or hesitation at constant speeds, and a loss of power while accelerating If you notice any of these warning signs, it might be time for a fuel pump replacement. For more details, visit our guide on diagnosing a bad fuel pump, or consult a mechanic for a professional evaluation.

A mechanical fuel pump is driven by the engine and is commonly found in older carbureted vehicles. In contrast, an electric fuel pump is powered by the vehicle’s electrical system and is more common in modern, fuel-injected vehicles. Electric fuel pumps generally offer higher fuel flow and pressure, making them ideal for applications that require a high pressure fuel pump or a fuel injection pump. If you're upgrading to a performance fuel pump, an electric fuel pump is typically the best choice for modern engines, especially those using fuel injection or E85 fuel.

Yes, upgrading to a performance fuel pump is a great option if you're looking to enhance fuel flow for a modified or high-performance engine. But a high flow fuel pump could be overkill if you are not planning future performance upgrades such as adding a turbocharger or other power-adders.

Product Specs

To determine if you have the correct fuel injectors for your intake, you need to verify the specifications of your intake manifold. For example, if you have an intake manifold that is designed for ls1/ls6 style long injectors, then you should ensure that the fuel injectors you are considering are compatible with that design. Regardless of the length specification, as long as the type matches (e.g., ls1/ls6 long injectors), you can be assured they are suitable for your application.

Corrugated flex hose lengths are listed on each product page at Quantum Fuel Systems, with options ranging from 100 mm (4 in.) up to 420 mm (16.53 in.). Yes, we sell fuel pressure regulators separately from our kits. When inquiring about a fuel pressure regulator, it would be beneficial to provide the year, make, model, and OEM number of your vehicle to ensure that you receive the correct part for your specific application.

Tips & Troubleshooting

In the unlikely event that you should need to request a warranty, please contact our customer service team to troubleshoot and diagnose the issue. Once we determine the cause of the failure, we will proceed with your warranty claim. This process will require you to provide information about the vehicle and the product installation. Please note, in some cases, customers will be responsible for the shipping cost of their warranty replacement.

Quantum Fuel Systems offers a YouTube playlist featuring a variety of customer installations, along with a general installation guide published on our blog. Because of the wide range of products we carry, we are unable to provide specific installation instructions for every item, so please refer to your vehicle manual for fuel pump installation and replacement details.

If your vehicle will not start after a fuel pump installation, run through a few checks before reaching out. Make sure all wire connections are tight and secure with no wiggle, confirm all fuel lines are fastened with hose clamps, and inspect those lines for cracks, splits, or pinholes. When inserting the fuel pump into rubber fuel lines or seals, use automotive lubricant or Vaseline to eliminate gaps, and apply the same practice when installing a new fuel pressure regulator. Before starting the engine, turn the ignition key to "on" to prime the fuel system, and listen for the pump spinning and drawing fuel so the system reaches proper pressure at startup. If you do not hear the pump, connect it directly to a 12 volt battery to confirm it spins, since a pump that runs on 12 volt but not in the vehicle indicates a wiring issue. If you have completed all of these checks and the pump still will not run on 12 volt, contact customer service to start a warranty claim, as we ask that these steps be followed before proceeding with a warranty replacement.

If you have purchased a Quantum fuel pump, it comes with a lifetime warranty. For pumps made by other manufacturers, the warranty terms are set by the manufacturer. It’s important to check the listing for specific warranty details on non-Quantum pumps.

If you’re experiencing a fitment issue with your order, such as the pump not fitting your vehicle or an incorrect component included in the installation, we ask that you provide us with your year, make, model, OEM number, order number, and photos of the original pump or component. This will allow us to assist you more effectively by understanding the situation and offering a suitable solution.

It is not uncommon to hear a slight rattle when handling a new fuel pump, as some internal components may move slightly during transport. This does not necessarily indicate a defect or a problem with the function of the pump. If you are concerned about the noise, please contact customer service for further assistance and reassurance.
