Fuel Pumps FAQs

How do I find the right fuel pump for my vehicle?+

The best way to confirm which replacement fuel pump fits your vehicle is to use the Year Make Model search function at the top of any page on the Quantum Fuel Systems website. Whether you're looking for a mechanical fuel pump or electric fuel pump, this tool will help you find the correct part. If you’re still having trouble, contact our customer service team with your vehicle’s year, make, model, and OEM number for assistance.

How do I install a fuel pump?+

We offer a general guide for fuel pump replacement, which applies to various types of pumps. Additionally, we have a playlist of customer installation videos on our YouTube channel. If you're not comfortable with the installation process, we recommend consulting a certified mechanic to ensure proper fuel pump replacement.

Is there a warranty on Quantum fuel pumps?+

Yes, all Quantum fuel pumps come with a lifetime warranty. However, some exclusions may apply, so it’s important to check the product listing for specific warranty details. For third-party products like Walbro fuel pumps or AEM fuel pumps, the warranty terms are set by the respective manufacturers.

How long does a fuel pump last? +

Quantum replacement fuel pumps are designed for long-lasting performance and typically last over 2,500 hours or 100,000 miles. However, the lifespan of a fuel pump can depend on driving conditions, fuel quality, and maintenance habits. Proper upkeep—such as not letting your fuel tank drop below a quarter full—can extend its service life. Learn more about preventative fuel system maintenance on our blog.

How do I know when it's time to replace my fuel pump?+

There are several signs that indicate your fuel pump may be failing. These symptoms include: - Difficulty starting the vehicle - A loud whining sound when the engine is running - Surging or hesitation at constant speeds - A loss of power while accelerating If you notice any of these warning signs, it might be time for a fuel pump replacement. For more details, visit our guide on diagnosing a bad fuel pump, or consult a mechanic for a professional evaluation.

What’s the difference between a mechanical fuel pump and an electric fuel pump?+

A mechanical fuel pump is driven by the engine and is commonly found in older carbureted vehicles. In contrast, an electric fuel pump is powered by the vehicle’s electrical system and is more common in modern, fuel-injected vehicles. Electric fuel pumps generally offer higher fuel flow and pressure, making them ideal for applications that require a high pressure fuel pump or a fuel injection pump. If you're upgrading to a performance fuel pump, an electric fuel pump is typically the best choice for modern engines, especially those using fuel injection or E85 fuel.

Can I upgrade my stock fuel pump to a performance fuel pump?+

Can I upgrade my stock fuel pump to a performance fuel pump? Yes, upgrading to a performance fuel pump is a great option if you're looking to enhance fuel flow for a modified or high-performance engine. But a high flow fuel pump could be overkill if you are not planning future performance upgrades such as adding a turbocharger or other power-adders.

Why is there fluid in my new fuel pump, and is it safe to use?+

The fluid you may find in your new Quantum fuel pump is testing fluid used during the manufacturing process to ensure the pump operates correctly under real-world conditions. We test pumps with fluid to check for proper flow, pressure, and functionality. This fluid is harmless and will not negatively affect your fuel system. It's completely safe to install and operate a pump that contains residual testing fluid.

Fuel pumps are usually replaced for two reasons—to restore OE functionality in the event of low fuel pressure or fuel pump failure, or to increase fuel pressure and volume as required by high performance applications. Quantum stocks a complete line of OEM direct replacement fuel pumps as well as performance pumps, both intank fuel pumps and external fuel pumps, designed for gasoline, diesel, or E85.
